Although more modern materials and techniques are available, the classic appeal of wood is enduring, and old ways of making a screened-in patio are still used frequently.

Traditional construction

The screened in porch in Tulsa, OK for terraces and porches are a lightweight form of construction, providing rain cover and insect screening, while maintaining the open-air character of the exterior structure. Traditionally, it is framing the enclosure with the post and construction beam, exposing the definition of the roof for viewing from the inside. Staple or tack screen material for posts and add wood battens usually 1 inch by 2inch material  to hide the fasteners and seams.

benefits

Wood is a warm, versatile material that can be created to fit an architectural theme, integrating the structure with the rest of the property. decorative details and paints complement the traditional character of the screened-wood case. A shielded enclosure is less expensive than more elaborate designs, and manageable for the handyman. Another advantage is that it is possible to hide the wiring conduit behind wooden inserts, unlike fences of different materials.

These are often made of aluminum, and rarely of other materials. Between the profiles there are plates made of durable polycarbonate or other materials, the thickness of which depends on the requirements. On the one hand, the strength is important because of different weather conditions, and on the other hand, because of child safety.

disadvantages

Moisture is a problem for outdoor wooden structures and screened fences are particularly vulnerable to moisture. Measures can be taken to prevent moisture penetration, but they add to the complexity of the construction. Screens can be easily damaged, and sag over time, requiring replacement or repair. Removing screens is a labor-intensive operation, requiring you to pull out the slats and remove or replace numerous staples or tacks.

alternative

Prefabricated aluminum frames are widely used for screened fences, having fewer problems with moisture and repair. Aluminum is usually less eye-catching than wood. Screen panels can also be tailored to fit openings, and attached to posts and beams with Velcro strips. Other proprietary systems manufacture systems with vinyl material available in different colors, to combine aesthetics and ease of installation and maintenance. When wood is preferred, using cedar wood a moisture resistant wood  for the frames avoids moisture problems.
